There are times in the life span of a car that the engine starts easily in the morning
when the engine is cool and probably well rested. But in the afternoon when the african sun is at the hottest, you may have been running around in your car so the engine is very hot at this time. You turn off your engine but it fails to start when you try to start it immediately after turning if off. This does not mean the car will never start. The good news is that it will start but you must do either of the following
Wait about 30 to 45 minutes to allow the engine cool down a bit then try again. The engine will start
If you cannot wait 30 to 45 minutes, Jump start with another battery. This will definitely start the car even though the engine is hot.
The question is, how long would you have to go through this before you get a lasting solution to the problem?
Do you know that such problems can kill your kick starter which would necessitate buying a new kickstarter from time to time.
Solution:
Simply change the following:
1. Thermostat:
The idea here is to stop the engine from getting too hot. Since that is the goal, we need to understand why a faulty thermostat can be the issue. A faulty thermostat can make the engine overheat by remaining closed despite the fact that the engine is hot. This can lead to the engine over heating.
On the other hand, a good thermostat should open up when the engine heats up to a certain point which will allow water or coolant to get to the engine to cool it down.
So check your thermostat. I suggest even if it is good, replace it with a new one to give no room for error.
Before you change the thermostat, check the temperature of the car on the dashboard when the car won't start immediately after turning the engine off. Note what it is.
Then change the thermostat. You will notice a drop in the temperature at that same time of the day.
This slight drop might be all you need to be able to start your car without any delay.
2. Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT) or Temperaturez Sensor as most mechanics call it.
This sensor measures how hot or cold the coolant/water is and also the temperature the thermostat registers. This information is what the computer uses to ensure the temperature of the engine is at the right level by adjusting some engine functions. If it is faulty, It can send wrong signals to the computer.
A faulty temperature sensor should be checked and replaced if faulty
