When you notice PRND warning light in your vehicle's dash board, it means that there
is a fault with the automatic gearbox.
This means that the gearbox is locked in the third gear and operating in down grade mode. The sound of the car will change and the car will move but with difficulty as if carrying a heavy load.
The ideal thing to do is to not force the selector lever.
You are also required to contact your car brand's dealer for repairs.
Quick solution
What happens if you are already in motion and in the middle of a highway and your dealer is very far from you?
Here is a quick way of fixing it so that the PRND warning will stop displaying on your dash board.
1. Clear from the road and stop the car by turning off the ignition
2. Remove the key from the ignition
3. Slot the key back into the ignition
4. Turn the key to the right but do not start the car. This position is called the System Ready Mode
5. Place your foot on the break or match the break
6. Change the gear to D (Drive) and wait for 4 seconds
7. Change the gear to N (Neutral) and wait for 4 seconds
8. Change the gear to R (Reverse) and wait for 4 seconds.
9. Change the car to P (Park) and wait for 4 seconds
Note: make sure you follow the steps in this order
10. Turn off the car and wait for 2 minutes
11. Start your car normally and check if the PRND error is still showing.
This quick fix works like magic but if the error is still showing, repeat this step one or two more times.
