N-Acetyl Cysteine - Uses and Benefits

 N-Acetyle Cysteine (NAc) is a medication that has a wide variety of uses.

 

As an antioxidant it plays a role in preventing cancer. It also helps in the treatment of cystic fibrosis. It can be used to treat mental disorders. This includes schizophrenia, bipolar and obsessive compulsive disorder. It also helps in the treatment of  problems with the lungs.One of its latest benefits is in the suppression of SARS-coV-2 which is the virus that causes Covid-19.

NAC also helps reduce the effect of Tylenol poisoning

These are only few of the benefits of this medication. 

 One aspect of N-Acetyle Cysteine is the role it plays in fertility. When taken as a supplement, It helps people with insulin sensitivity as a result of PCOS. It brings down the sugar level and aids spontaneous ovulation in PCOS patients. Its role in improving spontaneous ovulation is still up for debates and outcome of any such investigation or study is still not popular.
