Why Evening Primrose Oil Is Important For Fertility

Evening Primrose Oil is a natural source of Omega

6 fatty acid deriv3d from seeds like flaxseed. It is also rich in Vitamin E.

Importance of Evening Primrose Oil

1. Helps to balance hormones and prevent premenstrual syndrome

Evening Primrose oil has a high concentration of linolenic acid and gamma linolenic acid. Gamma limolenic acid is used in the body to produce hormone-like chemicals called Prostaglandins.

This makes evening primrose oil important to balance hormones and reduce the effects of premenstrual syndrome such as cramping, bloating, breast sensitivity, hot flashes, depression etc.

2. It helps in the production of cervical mucus

The production of cervical mucus or fluid is very important in fertility during the supposed fertile period when a woman is to ovulate to sustain sperm by creating a conducive environment for it to live. The cervical mucus should also be of good quality. It should be as stretchy as egg whites. This is expected to be the quality around ovulation to increase the chances of conception.

Conception will be difficult to achieve when sperm lived in a hostile environment.

Why you should thread with caution in the intake of evening primrose oil

The fact that evening primrose oil enhances fertility depends on when you take it. One key fact to have in mind is that evening primrose oil can also be used to induce labor. Since this is the case, it means that it can cause uterine contractions.

Uterine contractions after conception will make it impossible for implantation to occur and even if implantation occured it can make it impossible for a woman to carry to full term due to contractions.

Effective way of taking evening primrose oil

It is strongly advised to confirm from your doctor on the required amount of evening primrose oil to take.
The recommendation is between 1500mg to 3000mg per day.

For fertility, you should start taking evening primrose oil from day one of your menstrual cycle.

Let us assume that your period started on 1st January. You should expect ovulation on day 14 of your mentrual cycle which should be on 14th January. So from day one to day 13 or 14 of your menstrual cycle it is safe to take evening primrose oil. But you should not take it any day after day 14 of your menstrual cycle.

Instead of taking evening primrose oil after day 14, you should switch to flaxseed oil from day 15.
