What Causes Mercedes Benz To Not Start When Engine Is Hot

There are several reasons your mercedes benz will not start when the engine is hot. But

before you rush into changing various parts in your vehicle there by wasting a lot of money in trial and error repairs, pause and consider the problem.

The problem is not that your car will not start, the problem here is that it will not start when the engine is hot. This means that the car has no problem starting in the morning or whenever the engine has cooled down.

Trying endlessly to get it started will definitely run down your kick-starter. So your mechanic will obviously advice you to change the Kickstarter. When you change it, the problem will seem fixed but give it some time, the kick starter will get weak and you are back to the same problem again.

This means that the kick starter is not the cause of the problem but an outcome of the problem.

Here are some vital parts to check and change if bad.

1. Starting Sensor or Crankshaft position sensor: This sensor is located at the back of the engine. Removing the starting sensor and connecting a new one is not an easy job although it shouldn't take time. The mechanic that knows what he is doing should be able to feel the position of the sensor, remove it and put a new one in that same slot without seeing it since it is in the back of the engine.

A faulty starting sensor when completely bad can ground your car to not start at all.

2. Temperature Sensor: Once you have changed the starting sensor, also change the temperature sensor. This is also located some where near the starting sensor. This sensor is also tricky to change since the mechanic often uses his hands to feel the position of it and change it effectively without seeing it.

3. Kickstarter: As soon as you have changed the two sensors mentioned above, change the Kickstarter. Be sure that the Kickstarter has a heat shield on it. This kickstarter with the heat shield should be attached and installed as one.

The heat shield on the Kickstarter as small as it is plays an important role in protecting the vital part of the Kickstarter from the exhaust heat as well as heat from the engine. When the Kickstarter is too hot, you will not be able to start the car until it has cooled down. So in a way the Kickstarter can be the problem but not the main problem.

4. Battery: Make sure the main battery is a good one. Depending on the kind of engine your benz has. It could be a V6 or V8 engine.

Quick solution: When you are trying to start your car when the engine is hot, this reduces the strength of your battery making it much more difficult to start the car. Options are to let the engine cool down or use an additional battery to jump start your car. This option is in a desperate situation but should not be relied on as the only way to start your engine when it is hot.

If the battery is weak, invest in a very good battery. Also make sure the terminals are clean and free of corrosion.

5. Fuel pump relay: An experienced electrician knows where the fuel pump relay is located in your car. Get that changed too.

When you have checked these parts and the problem persists, it could be that it has to do with a deeper issue with the engine.

Advice is to save up and replace the engine.
