How To Link Your National Identification Number (NIN) To Your Sim.

National Identification Number (NIN) is a unique number assigned to you as a Nigerian citizen once you have successfully completed your

enrolment into the National Identity Database at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

One of the responsibilities of NIMC is to assign a Unique Number to you which is going to be for only you basically forever which is your National Identification Number (NIN).

Bearing this in mind, it is very important to get registered at NIMC since that is the only way to get your NIN.

So the first step is to make sure you are registered at NIMC as soon as possible.

Enrolment at NIMC is quite straightforward. You can visit NIMC website for a detailed guide on how to get enrolled.

There are also enrollment centers in all states in Nigeria and some centers for Nigerians in diaspora which are also listed in NIMC website.

Once you have enrolled at NIMC, you will be given  a slip containing your NIN which should be located somewhere on the top left corner of the slip.

If you are still finding it difficult to locate this 11 digit NIN, do not worry there is another option.

Simply dial *346# on your phone. This should work on any network provider. 

Once you have dialed this number, a pop-up message shows on your screen asking you to Press 1 to continue or 2 to cancel. 

Please press 1. Another pop-up message shows on your screen containing your NIN. Copy out the number and save it somewhere.

So what do you do with this number?

This number is what you will be linking to your Sim number to avoid being blocked by your network provider. 

Please be reminded that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed all telecommunications operators in Nigeria to block all lines that are not yet linked to NIN. 

The deadline is 9th February, 2021.

How to link your NIN to your network providers SIM 

GLO subscribers: Text your NIN to 109 or dial *109*yourNIN#

For instance if your NIN is 12345678910, dial *109*12345678910# on your phone.

MTN Subscribers: Dial *785# or dial *785*YourNIN#

For MTN subscribers you may also text your NIN to 785

9MOBILE Subscribers: Dial *200*8# and follow the prompts to submit your details

AIRTEL Subscribers: Dial *121*1# and follow the prompts or instructions
